Having genealogy as a serious hobby in the 1970s, and then returning to it in the 2010s and 2020s, is an interesting experience. It’s obvious to say, but the internet resources are so wonderful!
I’ve found several ancestors who settled in Massachusetts during the first wave of English immigration there. I’m not done with this research, but I thought I would post what I’ve found so far. All of this is easily found at several sites.
Via my mom’s maternal grandma, Abby (Washburn) Pilcher:
Francis Cooke, c. 1583-1663
Came on the Mayflower with son John in 1620
Hester Mahieu Cook,
Came to Plymouth on the Anne in 1623, with their other three children Jacob, Jane (my ancestor), and Hester. Mary was born in 1626.
John Washburn, 1597-1670
Born in Evesham, County of Worcester, England, came to Duxbury, MA in 1632, died in Bridgewater, MA.
Margery (Moore) Washburn,
Brought their two sons on the Elizabeth and Anne in 1635 and joined John in Duxbury.
Their son John Washburn (1620-1686) married Experience Mitchell, the daughter of Jane (Cooke) Mitchell, who in turn was the daughter of Hester and Francis Cooke (above).
Both John Washburns, father and son, were among the original 54 persons to be proprietors of Bridgewater. According to one source, “They bought the lands from the Indian sachem, Massasoit, for seven coasts of one and one-half yards each, nine hatches, twenty knives, four moose skins, ten and one-half yards of cotton cloth. The transfer was signed by Miles, Standish, Samuel Nash and Constant Southworth.” (Source of quote: https://www.schenectadyhistory.org/families/hmgfm/washburn-1.html )

Via my dad’s maternal grandma, Alice (Colburn) Carson:
Edward Colburn, 1618-1700
Probably born in England, he set sail on the Defence on July 18, 1635 and arrived in Boston on October 30, 1635.
First settler in Dracut, MA. Also lived in Chelmsford.
Married to Hannah, surname uncertain (c. 1620- before 1712), in 1645. Edward commanded “Colbron’s Garrison” on the east side of he Merrimac during King Philip’s War. Their son Edward (1642-1675) was killed in the incident “Wheeler’s Surprise” during the war.
Hannah may have been born in Whiteparish, Wiltshire, England. I am descended from Hannah’s and Edward’s son Robert, the great-grandfather of my 4th-great-grandfather Paul Colburn (1761-1825, a founding settler of Loami, IL in Sangamon County.

Through my mom’s paternal grandma Susan (Williams) Crawford:
William Copp, 1589-1670
Born in Honiley, Warwickshire.
Arrived in Boston in 1640, although some sources say he sailed on the Blessing from England in 1635. He owned a house near the mill bond on the north side of Boston, which later became known as Copp’s Hill. He was married to Ann Rogers, and then to Goodith (Judith) Icthener.
